Shopping

Not to be left out of any vacation is shopping, shopping, shopping.  Situated on a picture postcard harbor on the west side of the island is the quaint town of Cruz Bay – if shopping is your passion, St. John is your paradise.  Sales tax is unheard of and duty free allowances for U.S. visitors make this a very lucrative pastime.  U.S. residents can return with $1,200 of duty free imports per person, including 5  .75 liter bottles of liquor (you are allowed a 6th bottle if it is produced in the Virgin Islands).

Cruz Bay, St. John’s port of entry, with a wide variety of restaurants and boutique shopping is just outside of the national park.  Just a short stroll from the ferry dock, you will find two of the islands finest shopping pavilions.  Wharf side Village is the first – it  is a colorful array of stores by-the-sea showcasing a variety of fashions, gifts, and jewelry, not to mention several bars and restaurants.

Mongoose Junction is the second and it is one of a kind multi-story complex made of native stone in a Caribbean setting, with over 30 unique shops and galleries, restaurants and cafes.  You can spend the day exploring stores and enjoy some of the islands best eateries as well.

Both shopping areas are brimming with the treasures of the world.  Fabulous jewelry, stunning artwork, beautiful pottery, tantalizing spices and hot sauces, resort wear, island mementos, gifts and souvenirs.  Find the perfect accent piece for your home or office at Bajo Lel Sol/Under The Sun exhibiting the work by Les Anderson and other accomplished local artists or search through a treasure trove of internationally acclaimed stores to find the perfect souvenir or gift for someone back home.

As you browse through Mongoose Junction and Wharf-side Village, make sure also to walk down the leafy alleys and walkways of Cruz Bay and visit the many small specialty shops tucked away in the center of town.

If you venture to the other side of the island, there is Coral Bay –
a seaside village with a low-key vibe where you will find interesting bars and restaurants
and local artists displaying their unique island made treasures.
