All beaches in the Virgin Islands are open to the public. Some are deserted (or almost), others are lively gathering spots like Trunk Bay. This is the site of the legendary underwater snorkel trail. If you follow the red, white & blue buoys, they outline 15 underwater plaques that identify the colorful fish and fascinating coral that reside in these waters. Other lovely beaches on the north shore are Honeymoon, Hawksnest, Maho & Cinnamon. On the south shore Lameshur and Salt pond are a beautiful alternative and off the beaten path. Salt pond bay is a quarter miles easy walk from the parking area and this sun-kissed Caribbean beach is worth the effort. Right behind the beach is the salt pond and just a short walk away along a trail brings you to the crashing surf and spectacular rocky cliffs of Trunk Bay. There is also a mile long trail through a cactus-studded landscape to Ram head point. |
